Do You Need a New Toothbrush?

Do you know if you need a new toothbrush? If you’re like most people, you’ve probably used the same one for quite some time now. It’s really easy to forget to pick up a new brush on regular trips to the grocery store.

The truth is, though, that you need a new toothbrush much more often than you’d think. After a brush wears out, the bristles don’t clean as effectively as they used to.

So in order to help you keep your teeth as clean as possible, read on to see why you need a new toothbrush.

Bristles

Bristles are what make a brush effective. They need to be aligned just right, and they also need to be somewhere between firm and soft. If they’re too hard, you’ll hurt your gums; if they’re too soft, you won’t clean your teeth. That’s why the brush you get from a dentist is selected so carefully.

When those bristles fray, though, it’s time for a replacement. The reason is that the brush is no longer removing plaque and debris from your tooth surface. Rather, all that junk gets spread around.

Germs

Even if you try as hard as possible to keep your toothbrush clean, the reality of it is that you’ll end up with more germs than you’d like to acknowledge on your brush. You could end up brushing bacteria all over your teeth if you keep using a worn-out brush.
