Details About Realigning the Teeth in Your Smile with Invisalign®

If the teeth in your smile need a modest amount of realignment but you’re not comfortable with the idea of wearing metal braces, you should ask your orthodontist, Dr. Matthew Scaffa, about being fitted for Invisalign®.

Invisalign uses custom, durable, clear plastic aligners to gradually adjust the alignment of your teeth in incremental steps.

For our Dental Art Concepts PLLC team to fit you for Invisalign, we will first need to perform a thorough examination of your mouth. This usually involves taking some X-rays, which will also help clearly define your alignment goals. Then, we will take an impression of your teeth and will send that impression to the Invisalign laboratory where a series of aligner trays will be created.

In order to minimize your treatment time, you will need to wear the Invisalign aligners for around 20 to 22 hours each day. Each set of aligners is designed to gradually stretch your periodontal ligaments that are anchoring your teeth, moving them a little bit closer to your ideal smile.

Every two weeks you will switch to another set of aligners that are tuned to send you toward your alignment goals. The number of aligners needed will vary. Most people meet their alignment goals in as little as six to eight weeks.

You can drink and speak normally while wearing Invisalign, but you will need to remove the aligner before eating. You should also keep from smoking or chewing gum while the aligners are in your mouth. When you are not wearing the Invisalign aligners, you should keep them in the case that is provided.
